About us
What started out as homesteading has turned into a passion.
In 2008, we bought our home and started our 1st garden. It was enough to provide us with an endless supply of zucchini so we could freeze and have fresh zucchini bread throughout the year.
Seven years later we planted our first three fruit trees and became fascinated with growing different fruits. We developed an orchard that has nearly 70 different varieties of fruit and nut trees.
2018 was our adventure into bee keeping to help pollinate our crops and provide us a little honey for our tea and cornbread. The next year we built a large shed with the goal of keeping chickens on one side and some storage on the other, but quickly chicken math happened and now we have over 100 chickens living their happiest lives while providing great compost to lay on our garden beds in the fall.
Early 2020, we had solar panels installed and have swapped out oil dependency for a hybrid hot water heater. With our net zero goals, we have incorporated an electric trimmer and an electric chainsaw to do tree pruning and brush cutting.
We feel that we would like people to know who their food is coming from so they can trust us, knowing where it is coming from so they know the source and how it was produced, along with how their value added products are being made.
We believe that everyone also should have the opportunity to learn how to farm and buy true quality at reasonable prices all while enjoying the tastes of nature.

Land Acknowledgement Statement
River Basin Farms would like to provide acknowledgement to where our farm resides. Our five acre farm and home are on the former land of Indigenous Peoples of Penobscot Nation who inhabited this area for many thousands of years prior to the colonialism of European settlers. They actively used this land along the Penobscot River as they migrated to and from their seasonal habitats while enjoying hunting, fishing, farming, and traditions, freely.
While we are trying to be great stewards of the land, our family recognizes that the land that we enjoy working and living on has a greater history that should be recognized and have great appreciation for Penobscot Nation for being the example of harmonizing with the land.
This land acknowledgement is our small part for what we hope to be a larger commitment for awareness and healing. We need to acknowledge the multiple failures that have caused trauma and abuse to Penobscot Nation and the other original inhabitants of the lands. We have to not only rebuild partnerships but respect their sovereignty. We are grateful to have this land as farmers and hope to remain stewards of this land.
